As soon as Colleen found out she could make designer vanilla extract, I was on the hunt. I came across this website and it sure seems simple enough. The website is presented well too. If you want to make your own vanilla extract, you really need to checkout the website I added in the “Useful Links” section. (Yea, I burrowed the picture from the website.)
Holy cow, vanilla beans are expensive! Until I find cheaper prices, I’ll stick with my imitation vanilla. Mexican vanilla has a faint taste of cinnamon, which often clashes with other flavors.
Heck, yea they are…. as for the flavor differences, I think that is what Colleen is counting on to make her different varieties of vanilla extract…. 🙂
I used the Madagascar gourmet beans, great thing is, you can use them again, have to wait longer 2nd time or use less liquid.
Everything I’ve been reading says use the lesser quality beans for extract. The beans are usually riper… we shall see though… gotta love a new adventure…😎
